About HCM: Harloff Capital Management
Rocket Science Helps

Harloff Inc.  was founded by Dr. Gary J. Harloff in 1981 and the firm registered as an investment advisor in 1994.  Harloff Capital Management  (HCM), a division of Harloff Inc.,  specializes in discretionary money management employing  our unique and disciplined money management style.  We invest in no-load mutual fund portfolios for individual and corporate accounts.  Funds remain in the client's name and we do not have custody of client funds. We also consult and place 401k plans for small businesses (<100 participants).  This 401k plan provides index fund, mutual fund, and managed account options.

HCM has an edge: our investment technology differs considerably from that of other money management companies, and we invest  our own assets along side of our client's assets. The firm's founder, Dr. Gary J. Harloff,  has an earned doctorate in AeroSpace Engineering;  he is trained as a rocket scientist.   Where most money management companies use standard indicators to invest,  HCM has conducted significant original stock market research and uses its own unique technology.   HCM also has conducted extensive original research in  NO-LOAD  mutual fund selection and market timing.  In summary, we use a disciplined quantatitative investment approach with unique mathematical tools.

The firm's founder, Dr. Gary J. Harloff , has been a student of the market since 1970  when a coworker at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, West Palm Beach, Florida  said it was impossible to model the stock market.  Dr. Harloff  took this as a personal challenge and began a long comprehensive study to model the market, initially on a part time basis.  In March of 1980 he completed a proprietary 75 page manuscript: "Stock Market Prediction, Part I, an Engineer's Approach".  In 1983 he developed original proprietary algorithms for a new computer program, "Call/Put Options 2.0", to predict theoretical values of call and put option prices for stocks and commodities. Before registering as an investment advisor Dr. Harloff was featured in a Crain's Cleveland Business article on 6-28-1993.   The firm registered as an investment advisor early in 1994.   In February 1997 he completed a mutual fund research study which documents  how to beat the simple buy-and-hold strategy.  This paper, "Dynamic Asset Allocation: Beyond Buy and Hold",  was published as the feature article in The Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities magazine  in January 1998, and it  is available on this web site: HARLOFF's article.  He invented the concept of the dynamic frontier,  in this paper, which is higher in return with less risk than the modern portfolio "efficient frontier".  One of our investment tools is our advanced technology Harloff Value Index, HVI,  which compares and predicts domestic and international mutual funds on a consistent basis.

Dr.  Harloff is an active member of the Cleveland Chapter of American Association of Individual Investors  (1985-) and is a member of the steering committee (1991-),  is co-founder and program chair for the AAII/NEOPC Stocks and Computer SIG group (1989-),  is a member of Society of Asset Allocators and Fund Timers (1994-), and is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (1968-).  In addition to his  Ph.D., he earned M.S., and B.S. degrees in aerospace engineering.   Dr. Harloff worked for a decade at the NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio in aeronautical propulsion research and computer modeling- as supervisor and widely published scientist.  He has presented his technical work in Madrid, Spain and Rome, Italy.  He holds two patents relating to turbomachinery technology.  Most of his engineering career has been in the area of computer simulation.
